Writing… Writing… and writing some more…

November 6, 2009 at 9:13 pm (Writing) (, , , , , )

I’m sorry to say I let this blog slide for a while, unfortunately. My writing slacked off as well, but I seem to be all revved up for NaNoWriMo. My current word count is 28,124 after only six days of writing. I’m over half way there! At this rate I believe I will complete the 50,000 word requirement to “win” by the end of next week, at least that’s my goal. I just wish I could keep up this pace during the rest of the year.

They say that most of what you write during NaNo is utter crap… they’re right. Out of the 28k I’ve written, I think only about 4-5k is actually usable material. The point is… I’m writing. It might not be anything that I will keep, but I’m practicing, getting better, and growing as a writer. In my mind that’s what NaNo is really about. Now I think it’s time to play catch up on posts… wish me luck!

What Goes Around

August 20, 2009 at 1:28 am (Writing) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Evidently the flu has decided to arrive early this year.  Normally we don’t have any real cases of it in Texas until October, but it’s running around the metroplex having a grand old time right now.  Cheryl’s husband is sick, it might not be the flu, but then again who knows.  I know a couple of people in the area who are sick as well, and even someone in California I know is under the weather.  I really hope that I can avoid getting sick. On a positive note though Cheryl made dinner tonight, it was amazing.

Today I did well in writing, getting posts in almost everything that I owed.  I’m really looking forward to Nifer’s response for Pure Strain.  She said she had a good start and should be able to post it tomorrow sometime.  I spent a lot of time today going over character pictures and arranging things on Fractured Dreams.  Creating Characters is an addiction of mine, once I get the rest of them up I will have well over a hundred.  I suppose there are worse addictions to have.

All Caught Up

August 19, 2009 at 1:44 am (Writing) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

That’s right, I managed to catch up on my writing completely.  I even started a new story, though the post I used was really a revamp from a previous attempt that fell apart so I didn’t count it in my overall word count.  It’s a Post-apocalyptic piece that I’m really looking forward to finally writing.  The woman I’m writing it with is extremely talented, I just hope that I can write up to her standards.  Yay for new writing partners!!

Order of business for tomorrow is to try and catch up on posts.  While I got quite a bit done, I still have eight or nine more to write tomorrow, minimum.  At least I’ll be busy, it helps keep me from thinking too much.  Happy Writing!

Today was Definitely a Monday

August 18, 2009 at 2:50 am (Writing) (, , , , , , , , , )

You know how everyone always groans and moans about Mondays.  I understand why, today was completely unproductive on the writing front.  I didn’t even manage one post.  It’s a little disheartening, but I will just have to make up for it tomorrow.  The day wasn’t a complete loss on other fronts though.  I purchased a dedicated Domain for Fractured Dreams and even managed to get it all transferred over.  Alright, so it wasn’t really me.  A friend of mine actually did it all for me after I got frustrated.  Veks is the creator and admin of Elliquiy, and I can’t thank him enough for his help.  Wish me luck tomorrow!

The Week in Review…

August 17, 2009 at 2:49 am (Week in Review, Writing) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Alright, so this week was far more productive than I thought it would be on multiple fronts.  On a personal note I’ve managed to get all of the gifts I wanted to for Jamie who is turning four, so now I can ship them off tomorrow, which is a huge relief, I was afraid that I was going to be late with the gifts.  I went to see District 9, which was amazing in my opinion, and had a good dinner with my mother on Friday.  Overall a satisfying week.

On the writing front I did pretty well too.  I got quite a bit done, and as of right now I’m completely caught up on everything.  Of course that won’t last through tomorrow, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Fun Filled Saturday

August 16, 2009 at 2:45 am (Movie Review, Writing) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

It took me a while to get going today, but I managed four solid posts.  The Night the Moon Fell (202), Pulse (312), Dollhouse: Whisky (206) and Chains That Bind with a whopping 904 words.  I’ve always found stories with Coil the easiest to write, he’s my most developed character to date and I love to write him.  He honestly seems to write himself.  I managed all of those in less than two hours, of course I knew I was on a timetable because the group went to see District 9 tonight.

A little about the movie.  To start off I thought the movie was great, I would give it a good 4 to 4.5 stars out of a five star system.  That being said I don’t think I will be able to watch it again any time soon.  It was an amazing social commentary, and a rather bleak and realistic look into the darker parts of human nature.  I don’t want to give anything away, but I walked away from the movie very pleased with the experience, but highly disturbed at the same time.  The movie definitely made me think, which is always a good thing in my opinion.  If you are looking for a fun, fast paced Science Fiction thriller, this isn’t the movie for you, but if you would like a solid movie with thought provoking content I highly recommend it.

How to Bribe a Muse

August 15, 2009 at 1:26 am (Writing) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I really wish that every day could go like today.  At least where writing is concerned.  I manged more words today than I usually write in three days combined, and I’m currently caught up on all of my writing.  I even managed a few hundred words in response to a picture prompt.

Perhaps bribing my muse with chocolate does work.  I discovered this wonderful snack the other day while I was at the store, they are perfect for a quick pick you up during writing.  Oreo FunStix.  They are thin chocolate wafer wrapped around a cream filled center.  Light and chocolaty with a nice amount of the best part of an Oreo, the center.  I suggest picking some up if you like Oreo’s.

I doubt I’ll get a lot of writing done tomorrow.  I’ve got brunch at 10am with a friend and her mother, and then tomorrow night I’m going to go see District 9 with some friends, I’ll make sure to put up a review.  Wish me luck on writing 1000 words tomorrow!

Another Late Night

August 14, 2009 at 3:12 am (Writing) (, , , , , , , )

It’s a little after 3am and I’m still sitting at the computer.  Some people would call me a night owl, I honestly question my sanity at this point.  My muse works at the oddest moments.  She’ll be on again off again all day, and then at midnight when I’m ready to head to bed she starts whispering ideas in my ear, enticing me back to the computer.  I also have the option of sleeping until noon if I need to, so I guess I shouldn’t complain too much.

I owe a few posts tomorrow, seven to be exact.  Hopefully I will be able to catch up completely, that would be a nice change.  Wish me luck!  Sleepless in Dallas signing off.

Getting Into the Swing of Things

August 13, 2009 at 3:10 am (NaNoWriMo, Writing) (, , , , , , )

NaNoWriMo may still be over two months away, but that’s not nearly as long as it sounds. I’ve decided to start prep work for the insanity now in hopes that it will make for a more enjoyable and fruitful experience this year. To prepare I’m slowly building up my daily word count, hoping to have it at a steady two-thousand words a day by the time November 1st hits. I’m starting out with one-thousand words a day and I’m slowly going to build up from there. My writing on Fractured Dreams seems to be helping quite a bit. Apparently collaborative writing is an easy way to build up my writing muscles.

Today I managed to catch up on some of my writing, which I’m sure made my writing partners extremely happy. With posts in six stories and a few sentences inspired by a picture prompt I think I did fairly good today. Here’s to hoping that I can keep up the pace.

That’s More Like It

August 12, 2009 at 7:36 am (Writing) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I managed to pull my muse back to my computer today.  There was a lot of kicking and screaming involved, but that’s to be expected I suppose.  I managed posts in Hogwarts Year One, which is a story set in the Harry Potter universe.  Storms in the Black, which is set in the Firefly/Serenity universe.  A modern fantasy piece called Black Orchid Consortium and last but not least Chains That Bind, which is a retelling of a campaign I ran using Exalted.  I feel really good about the number of words I managed to get done.

On a different note we now have two more members on Fractured Dreams, now I just need to figure out where to advertise the forum to draw good writers.  I have high hopes for the forum, perhaps a little too high.  Time will tell.  Now it’s time for bed, and hopefully another glorious day of posting will follow.
